This ladies' model, in beautiful original condition, is equipped with this modern and original transmission system. This Cleveland bicycle, manufactured in Toledo, USA between 1898 and 1904, has an acatene system, without a chain, a cardan with conical gears drives the rear wheel silently. This ladies' or eclectic model, "with a sign collar" has a fixed pinion, a very comfortable Christy leather saddle. The mudguards are missing, the tires and inner tubes are new.
This bike needs a proper renovation, but trying to keep its original appearance, the original paint could be preserved.
Old posters by Jules Cheret from 1901 for Cleveland and by Currier in 1897 for the Christy saddle (not intended for sale).
Used until the beginning of the 1920s and again today, self-service in La Rochelle, the old acatene bicycles are real collector's items.
